Vegan Mothers Day. Ending Slavery – May 9, 2023

LISTEN HERE (above is the link to the Vegan Nation 05.09.23, 1/2 hour audio replay)

Vegan Nation Mothers Day Special 2023.  Swiss visionary artist, vegan chef, and food-forest veganic gardener, Madeleine Tuttle teaches us how to make homemade oatmilk. In this 2023 interview, Dr. Will Tuttle discusses his essay, Honoring Mothers and Ending Slavery.  The artwork pictured here was inspired by Emily.  Emily was a 1,600 pound Holstein dairy cow who, along with other “spent mothers” in her herd, was next in line on the kill floor at a local slaughterhouse.  Emily escaped by jumping over the stockade fence. For weeks, Emily escaped the police who, after enough failed corral attempts, had been ordered to shoot her on sight.  Massachusetts residents reported seeing Emily running with a herd of deer throughout the winter months (and even spotting Emily nosing around the starting line of the Boston Marathon).  As a result of a solo rescue attempt by Meg Randa, a mother, a vegan & co-director of the Peace Abbey, Emily was eventually coaxed onto a trailer. Then, for seven years (until her transitioning over/natural death), Emily lived at the Peace Abbey in Sherborn, Massachusetts (where she is buried). In Emily’s infancy, a property status/commodification tag had been forced through the skin of her left ear.  Madeleine Tuttle’s “To Be Free” painting shows a token (a golden thread) that had been placed (gently & temporarily) onto Emily’s ear during a ceremony at the Peace Abbey.  Tune in Tuesday, May 9, 2023! 4 pm Eastern Daylight Time. Last week’s show includes the interview with Dr. Susan Craig, one of the 3 founding members of the Northern American Veganic Certification Standard. Susan offers free veganic gardening lessons, online. A retired educator, Susan’s highest priorities at this point in her life are to advocate for the animals and the Earth. Specifically, through educating others about the urgent necessity of going vegan for the animals and the environment, sustainable living through growing one’s own food veganically, and through raising awareness about climate engineering, a widespread yet little acknowledged practice that is a key factor in the unfolding biosphere collapse.  Below is the replay of Dr. Susan Craig’s Vegan Nation interview (April 4, 2023):

Dr. Susan Craig stopped eating all animal products 33 years ago as a commitment to nonviolence towards all beings. In 2017 her Northern California home was destroyed in a massive wildfire that killed 44 people. She was able to evacuate all of her rescued chihuahuas and cats to safety with the exception of a feral cat who survived the fire and was retrieved a month later.

Susan relocated to an off-grid homestead in rural Northern California which she named Happy Chihuahua Acres. She has studied veganic and sustainable Grow Biointensive gardening practices, grows much of her own food, and teaches veganic gardening classes. Susan is a founding member of the recently established North American Veganic Certification Standard and her mini-farm is Certified Veganic. Along with her mini-farm, Susan has a private sanctuary for rescued animals. She has eight dogs, five cats, and four goats. Susan has taught yoga for 17 years and is a World Peace Diet Facilitator.
