Sandra Kyle has been advocating for animals since the 1990s. She is a writer and speaker on animal rights issues, both in New Zealand and internationally. Sandra was one of the authors of Vegan Voices (ed Dr. Joanne Kong). Sandra does regular weekly vigils for The Save Movement, where she often stands alone. She sings to the animals waiting to be slaughtered to try to calm them, and to convey her love for them. Her radio show ‘Safe and Sound’ (2015-2019) was a finalist in the New Zealand Radio Awards, and in 2018 she was a recipient of the Philip Wollen Animal Welfare Award. She has a nonprofit called Project Karuna, which raises money to help street animals in India. Sandra is on the Executive and Policy committees of the Animal Justice Party of Aotearoa NZ, and is their Volunteer Coordinator.
