In 1981, the UN declared the third Tuesday of September as International Day of Peace. In 2021, they moved to change the date to be observed annually on Sept 21st. Peace activists have been calling out for peace since at least ancient Egypt, and numerous peace groups today continue to rally for peace, but it’s well known that peace has not been attainable due to the fact that humanity continues to wage war against the other animals. “When I was considering not hunting or fishing anymore I was afraid I’d lose my connection to the natural world since hunting and fishing was the vehicle that brought me out there on a regular basis.

Immediately after I quit hunting and fishing I began volunteering time, doing bird, amphibian, bat, and mammal tracking surveys for the state and other agencies. I also got into wildlife photography, kayaking, cross country skiing, hiking, and camping. Instead of being focused on a few species as I was before, I am now focused on learning about and observing all of them. I’m much closer and more engaged with the natural world now than I ever was as a hunter and fisherman and feel so good knowing I’m no longer out there killing and causing harm.” – Kenneth Damro

Also in this Vegan Nation Aug 15th broadcast, announcing the art exhibition “State of the Union” by vegan artist, Jane O’Hara (New Bedford, Massachusetts, until Aug 20th). And Vegan India Movement “Freedom For All” campaign in 22+ cities (Aug 15 & 19).
